In this paper you will discuss the ways a movie is related to concepts and ideas have been covered in this course. Descriptive Section (10 points) You will need to describe the film (plot and characters) briefly. This should take approximately one page, but no more than two pages (double-spaced and typewritten). Imagine you are describing the basic plot, themes, characters, etc. to someone who has not seen the movie. Analysis Section (30 points) You need to use THREE concepts or ideas from the course discussions or readings to interpret, explain, or analyze the political or governmental message or content of the film. In some cases, this concept or idea may be implicit or subtly related to the characters or plot of the film. You do not need to agree with the perspective of the concept or idea expressed in the film; you only need to identify and discuss it. The concept/idea need not apply to the entire movie. In some cases, you may find concepts and ideas that are applicable to specific sections or scenes of the movie. Please use the following format to organize your discussion. In a paragraph or two, identify and explain the course idea or concept. Then, in another paragraph or two explain how this idea or concept relates to the film you have chosen. If you think the film advocates a particular position describe this position (in a paragraph). You should plan to spend a large part of your time on this paper thinking carefully about the different concepts and ideas we have covered in the course. Looking at the syllabus and section headings in the textbook will help you do this. Presentation (10 points) Points awarded for this section are based on the organization of your ideas into paragraphs, the flow of ideas from one paragraph to the next, sentence construction, spelling, punctuation and standard language usage. Plan to write a draft of this paper, and then rewrite it at least once or twice. You are not required to use APA or MLA formatting, but you should use proper general formatting (with respect to grammar, spelling, margins, fonts, etc.).
